  • Hurricane Ivan
September 7th, 2014 will mark ten years  since Grenada was devastated by Hurricane Ivan. The first hurricane to hit Grenada in nearly 50 years, the last one being Hurricane Janet in 1955. Hurricane Ivan damaged or destroyed over 80%  of Grenada's buildings and left many families homeless or living in the most basic of conditions in their damaged homes.

Hyde Park was fortunate not to suffer any major damage to the house. The garden, which had been planted up over the prior two years,  according to the design of the landscape gardener, Chris Baasch from Venezuela, suffered a major setback. Many young trees were uprooted and plants and shrubs were simply blown away, never to be seen again.

The following photographs were taken the day after the hurricane of Hyde Park and it's surrounds. The loss of trees opened up vistas of the neighbourhood  that we had never seen before.
